Welcome to Depression: Removing the Mask, my name is Roberta, and I am a survivor of depression. Each day I fight a battle to stay in good spirits. We all have times when we did not want anyone to know what we are feeling. Have ever been greeted by someone, and they ask you that simple yet hard question, “How are you today?” You look deep within yourself trying to find the words to fit the question. Chaos is going on inside of you and your emotions are all over the place, but your first and only response is, “I’m FINE.” The mask of protection is place gently over your true feelings. Covering all the pain and hurt inside.
This is a safe place where we can express all our emotions and not feel scared or judged. In this place you will be able to read about member’s triumphs, or present struggles. Sometimes, we think we are the only ones walking on an emotional journey when in fact there are others walking behind us struggling to get where we are and survivors in front of us fighting to stay on course. In this space, we will support each other’s journey to becoming happy and content with our true selves and embrace all our emotions.
Many of the emotions are normal, but there are times they can develop into something more then we can handle. We will strive to accept that depression is not a bad word and nothing to be ashamed of. We will discuss the many types of depression; how to recognize the signs and symptoms, and if necessary where to seek help or treatment. Through each other’s stories, comments, and suggestion we can build a strong informed community that fights for each member. There is a beautiful person behind the mask and in this safe space we will learn to trust, love and embrace the person we do not want anyone to see.
So it is my pleasure to again welcome you to Depression: Removing the Mask
